The Yngve 70 helicopter
After the government’s decision to phase out the HKP4 system, ownership of the “Y70” helicopter was transferred to the Swedish Air Force Museum in Linköping (FVM).
The Swedish Air Force Museum deposited the helicopter with the Aeroseum shortly thereafter, with an end-user agreement. This means in short that the Aeroseum has control of the helicopter; the Swedish Air Force Museum cannot reclaim it.
Aeroseum and 2.hkpdiv have done a fantastic job of keeping the helicopter airworthy since 2011. A task that was taken over in 2022 by the Friends of Vertolens Vänner together with Aeroseum and members of 2.hkpdiv.
In 2022, the Y70 was also classified as an aircraft of cultural and historical value, further highlighting her uniqueness.
Our work with Yngve 70
Yngve 70 is a HKP 4C type, which served in the Royal Swedish Air Force from 1973. As far as we know, she is the only one of her type still flying in Europe.
Through dedicated work, we, together with Aeroseum, strive to preserve her in airworthy condition. This is done with completely voluntary efforts and commitment from our regular members.
Our purpose
To ensure the continued operation of the Yngve 70, both financially and through specialist expertise from technicians, pilots and other personnel, the support association Vertolens Vänner has been founded.
We have our origins in the 2nd Swedish Air Force and work closely with the Aeroseum, so that together we can showcase the Yngve 70 at airshows and public events.
The association’s goal is to keep the helicopter flying and active in the air.
Are you interested in supporting our activities or knowing more?
Together we can ensure that “Yngve 70” continues to be a living part of Sweden’s proud aviation heritage.
